ABOUT WESTERGASFABRIEK

The Westergasfabriek (Western Gas Factory) was built at the end of the 19th century by the Continental Gas Association.

It was strategically located near waterways, the railway system and access roads. Originally the gas was used for street lighting of Amsterdam. The Machinegebouw was the heart of the factory. From its machines gas was pumped throughout the site.

Now, the Westergasfabriek is providing a new surge of energy and light. Creative entrepreneurs work in the renovated historic buildings and many high-profile events and festivals are held here.
